Landscapes of Belonging explores how landscapes change, what those changes reveal, and how data, narrative, and spatial analysis can deepen our relationship with the natural world.
 

This platform integrates Geographic Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing, and data visualization to analyze land use, ecological patterns, and environmental processes across regions and scales. Each project combines spatial analysis with narrative to explore not only visible changes in the landscape, but also less visible factors such as data gaps, temporal shifts, and the institutional systems that influence environmental management and decision-making.
 

As an evolving body of work, Landscapes of Belonging develops data-driven stories that contribute to a broader understanding of environmental change through accessible, evidence-based communication.
 

A central question guides this work:
 

Are we addressing the causes of environmental change, or primarily responding to its consequences?

What This Work Pays Attention To

This platform emphasizes environmental conditions and patterns that are often overlooked in data or public discourse due to their complexity, scale, or distribution across multiple systems.
 

Key areas of focus include

  • Long-term environmental change and gradual landscape transformation

Rather than focusing on a single environmental issue, the platform examines how environmental change is observed, analyzed, and communicated through spatial data, and how these processes shape understanding, planning, and decision-making.

Approach

Using GIS mapping, remote sensing, and visual analytics, each project translates environmental data into structured narratives that support exploration, interpretation, and informed decision-making. Visualizations serve not only to communicate results, but also to reveal relationships within data and across environmental systems.

 

This approach recognizes that environmental data reflects the conditions, methodologies, and systems through which it is produced. By making these factors more visible, the work promotes a deeper and more informed understanding of environmental information.
